Ric, this does work very well. I have used this method before with strawberry jars. I also sometimes take my strawberry jars and submerge them in a 5 gallon can of water for 3-5 minutes and let them absorb water. Then I just remove the jar and replace it into it's saucer. This also works well for me. I always keep my pots in drip saucers. The water runs straight brought, but the drip tray catches it and then it can slowly absorb back up into the soil.
