Senior moment, I planted the lupines last year (2014). Some of them actually lived and thrived during the early part of the year, then as the heat mounted they sucumbed to the heat. I will be surprised if any of them return "this year" (2015). I planted them from seed and they germinated well and grew fairly fast, they could not take the heat it appears. The same for the Delphiniums, even though one year I did manage to have one beautiful plant, but it never returned. Last year the plants were doing great then the deer and the bunnies found them before they got very large and then the heat finished them off.
