We feed the deer cracked corn. We buy 50 pound bags from Tractor Supply, or Walmart, if they have it. We keep a large bucket full right next to the sliding glass door in the kitchen. We have a large plastic cup that we use to scoop out the corn. We just dump some in a few piles and the deer come up and eat. For awhile, the larger bucks and does, were chasing off the smaller deer and wouldn't let them eat. So, now we make sure the piles are pretty far apart from each other. We set out food for them twice a day.
We also feed them stale bread, apples that are getting soft, and sometimes even old lettuce or veggies that we won't eat. So far so good.
We started out feeding the birds, too - but the deer would just eat the seed right out of the feeders. It became pointless so we stopped.
We actually got into the 30's today, with a snow, sleet, and then rain mix. Supposed to get cold again for a few days (teens as the high) and then back into the 30's again toward the end of the week. Yay! A mini heatwave!
Heck, I'm happy when the sun shines!
