Last year was my first try with the salpiglossis. I did three trial areas: 1) tops in sun, roots shaded by other plants, 2) entire plant in compost and sun, 3) tops in sun, roots shaded deeply by inanimate objects (in my case it was logs). Number 1 almost lived to bloom, number 2 never did much of anything and died early, and number 3 was fantastic...well beyond my expectations.

Just food for thought as you head into your first salpiglossis endeavors. Smiling Best to ya!
