During my early days in the internet and exposure to gardening matter online, I used to see in awe people discuss about 'venetian blinds' for plant markers. These blinds are very costly here and were not affordable in homes much. I know they are used a lot in the US and so over time they get old and people replace them. As such they get a lot of such stuff for re-purposing. 'Thrift sales and garage sales' are non-existent here. We have to buy new 90% of the time. Rarely people resell their smaller items. In my case, I have to find other things instead of v/blinds. I love those blinds very much. I've done a few more types of markers which I'll be sharing on this site when time permits. Simple ones like that one.
