Wow, that's amazing, and mysterious too! I've had raccoons carry off a mango, and they weigh about a pound each, so that's again an amazing feat for a 4-legged critter to carry something at least 10% of it's weight. They only choose the ripe ones, so couldn't carry in their mouths. The fruit would break off. I find the mango seed 50ft away from the tree sometimes.
I've always wondered, but it seems as if my squirrels are not interested in my tomatoes. They grow right next to the bird feeder, but the squirrels never touch them. Again, I think it's because the seed is an easier meal.
Now, the cardinals . . . ! ! Peck a hole or two in about 5 tomatoes, I've seen them. Netting is happening this year.
