The second photo is extraordinary!

Ever since Dirt mentioned the bees were going after the coffee grounds I have been thinking about why. As a former beekeeper, I was intrigued by the question. Sugars would certainly be the first thought. Are there sugars in brewed coffee grounds? Perhaps this will provide some enlightenment:

Also, quoted from Wiki:
During roasting, caramelization occurs as intense heat breaks down starches, changing them to simple sugars that begin to brown, which alters the color of the bean.

Then I wondered why the coffee grounds in the pollen sacs?
Bees make a substance called propolis which they use to seal the hives with. It's sort of a resinous substance and is quite effective for the purpose. Bees are masters at making things "right & tight". See:

So I began searching to see what in coffee grounds the bees might use to make propolis. Ah hah! Caffeic acid as well as oils. See:

Amazing creatures bees are.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown
