I can't use that type of netting anywhere in my garden. It traps and kills the black snakes, as they poke their small heads in, then can't get their fat bodies through the hole. Not that I love snakes, but I do like having them around to keep the rodent population in check. Pretty sure they eat squirrel babies when they can get to them, speaking of squirrel deterrents.

I've seen black snakes 'way up in my big oak trees at times. Of course they also raid bird nests up there, I guess. It's up to the birds to build where the snakes can't go.
