Yes, the purpose is different. But I get the idea. What a lot of work 'just' for water. We are indeed blessed here, specifically in Alaska. We pay a fixed amount for water no matter how much we use. I feel guilty anyway letting the water run waiting for it to be hot to do dishes and such.

We have water towers here in some states to capture and store water. Perhaps you have seen them. Huge round metal tanks sitting on long legs. I know that many years ago Los Angeles, Calif built canals to divert water from other states that had plentiful water to their ever growing needs. Has caused much anger in those other states as water is an issue for them.

Do the 'holes in the earth' cause the water to drain into deep caverns? Is that why it is lost?
