I think some of the old "pass alongs" can never be IDed. They have been around longer than the modern hybrids. I know people in 7a can grow the hardier H. species and older H. hybrids in a sheltered location(such as close to a south facing wall).It may be worth a try in 6a. Definitely plant a little deeper and mulch heavily, and even use a frost blanket if its going to be below 32 for a long time. Certainly worth a try. I think dampness in the winter would be as much of an issue as cold. You have a lot more snow-rain in the winter than we have in Florida. When you split your potted bulbs try a couple outside and see what happens.
