Thought of another one. Got a few Chrysothemis bulbs in trade a few yrs ago, they are in communal pots with other plants (good thing!) They completely disappear during winter, then, when it's gotten warmer at night again, grow back.
This discussion also makes me think about plants that can easily be saved over winter, usually used as annuals, but still often become hideous looking, or even go dormant. In retrospect, I'm sure I've thrown out dormant plants before... I did learn how to store the bulb ones, but not soon enough to save all.
I've thrown away braided Ficus benjaminas before but now know the leaves just fell off because they were moved. Should have waited.
Begonias of all types, the cane types especially often discard the older canes, but given a chance, nicer, new ones show up. Doesn't have to happen if you have better light for them than I do, but it's OK if it does.
Mandevilla vine, was probably just dormant.
Plectranthus 'Mona Lavender,' now I see it's just mad inside, it's not dying & can rebound outside again.
Shamrock (Oxalis) bulbs, went dormant, as did...
Amaryllis
Elephant ear (Colocasia)
