I'm afraid that I don't have much to offer today, but I will throw this out there as part of the discussion on
throats.
Adams supposedly hybridized a daylily with a "metallic gold yellow"
throat, which he named 'Lynn's Gold Throat'. (Lynn was a relative who was searching the seedling patch with him, who found the seedling which was to bear her name. I remember that much of the description in his catalog.)

I never bought the plant, I never saw the plant (just the description in his catalog; I can't remember a picture but he must have had one), so I have to wonder if the "metallic gold yellow" was really a
throat, or maybe just a metallic eye that was down in the throat - or else maybe just extreme gold dusting (which did not manifest on the rest of the flower surface - at least, not as gold). It's too bad there isn't a picture of it in the AHS or ATP database. (I did try a Google search for it, but could not find a picture anywhere.)
