That's really the problem with Orthene, though Ken. It kills everything. If beneficial insects come in contact with it they die too. It lies around and isn't consumed by the targeted insect, in this case the fire ants.

So if you 'nuke' an area of your garden and kill off the beneficials like ladybugs or lacewings along with the fire ants, then you have more insect problems going forward that the beneficials were maybe keeping under control before.

Then you need to use more and more stuff like Orthene. It's a self-perpetuating problem that sure is profitable for the Ortho people.
