Just received my very FIRST daylily order and I have all of you to blame, whoops! to thank for the inspiration! Lovey dubby I ordered from Amador Farms, the prices were good for me and they are recommended. I did buy two last year (NOIDs) from HD or L's? in a one gallon pot. (They are already up with many leaves so I'm looking forward to the blooms.) The fans I received today are very nice and there were two of each and I'm very happy with their service. I made a special bed for the new arrivals and was going to use native soil and alfalfa pellets but I'm wondering now if that is a good idea as I have read so many soil recipes in the forums. Our soil is clayish and I have been adding sand and straw with compost to the beds I have other flowers in already. Also there is no local source for pine bark although cedar bark is very plentiful and I usually use it to help keep the soil cooler in the summer. Is that ok? (Maybe this is not the correct forum to ask these questions, if not, please point me in the right direction.)
