I've also read that water is the most important things for daylilies.
I haven't used Milorganite but will look into it. I tried some blood meal on my shrubs last year and was amazed at their positive response-- better than anything I've tried before. Will be using it again, especially since it also keeps deer and rabbits away (at least for a few weeks).
