I am gonna do the same with my big ones, they are blooming now but still kinda dormant not too many leaves yet. I have always been afraid to cut them back too. But it's now or never they are getting huge and misshapen. Plus I need to try and propagate a few that I really like. And then it is on to grafting onto some of my seedlings.
