I sure do hate to hear that, MaryAnn Crying ....sounds like we're all in the same boat ! I found, last year, that you REALLY need to 'carve out" the "rot', and all, or as much as possible, of the "brown stain".....so I 'sharpened ' the edges of a spoon( Actually, TWO spoons...one large, and one small)so I can more easily 'cut through" the rhizome. And bleach, while a very good "biocide", isn't too good as a "fungicide"( and botrytis....which I have, and it looks to be the same as yours...is a fungus), so "spray with a fungicide / bleach mixture ( I have been using Listerine mouth wash, with a few drops of "systemic fungicide added). I'll keep everyone posted as to how effective the "new" fungicide works, but, in the mean time, I would spray the plants with Daconil.
