Ashton/Terry - I have over 300 seedlings. I lost count last year. LOL! Some were seeds I won on the LA but most were shared wth me by 3 members here, and of course I created many of my own crosses from existing seedlings. I had wanted Paper Butterfly because of the genes (and I saw all the children it has produced), but I can't always tell which cultivars show resistance to rust. I've read conflicting information on many cultivars concerning rust. Regardless, I really am attracted to the unknown genetics of seedlings. I have one currently that was so-so last year when it bloomed. Beautiful blooms, but not many buds. This year it has 3 and perhaps more scapes and just loaded with buds. It is a cross of Stippled Statement with unknown pollen parent. It is my favorite one so far of all that I have grown. When it starts blooming I will post a photo on the April Seedling Blooms thread. That one is MY cup of tea! I got the seed from Sandi (seedsower).

I have found as you mentioned very reasonably priced daylilies on the LA and elsewhere, but the shipping is a deal-killer for me on many of them. I am not cheap, I am on a very tight budget annually for my gardens. So seeds work out the cheapest for me. Even if I only get a few worthwhile crosses, they multiple and can be planted around my yard in other places in the future. I will eventually cull many of my seedlings because of the rust issue, but it sure is fun to see what you get from seeds!
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.
