I heard this tip to keep them from opening up and getting floppy, drop a penny or two in the water. Darwin hybrids are the worst for opening so big, and I tried it with a vase of them. I cut them in the morning, while the blooms were closed, added the pennies to cold water, and they lasted for about 5 days without opening up completely.
