When I moved in, there were only two sick Forsythia bushes growing from the mixture of sand, gravel, stones and brick chips. I was cleaning stones and removing brick chips whole that summer, but I managed to plant the roses in the fall. It took me three years to nurse the Forsythias back to health, but it was worth it.
