I think it still might be better to put in a pot...even if it is a plastic one atleast until the fall. That way you can keep it in the shade. You know what our summers are like. Otherwise you will have to be nursing it all summer. If you plant it, you will have to mulch it very well, and hopefully it is in a area where the roots will stay cool
