That is one of the hardest things about getting older. If you live long enough you will lose that special childhood friend, your first sweetheart, the person who was your secret keeper and perhaps the one who mentored you when you were just spreading your wings. You may be the only one left who truly remembers them but as long as you remember their name they are not totally gone. If you are missing them enough that you feel sadness it is a compliment to who they were and what kind of life they led. Glad you shared here, Tom, so we can acknowledge their worth in your life.
