Just soft soil will do though they'd love moist compost.

Select a new supple stem, prepare the planting spot, very lightly scratching the node after you remove the leaves at the node will help it root. Cover with a rock, a brick, a stone - anything to insure it will remain moist, and you'll have a new plant in autumn.
