Usually they have a hole but when they don't I carefully drill one. I have sizes between 6" to 2'. I have various stands ( Big Lots for iron stands) and make sure they are very secure. I place those in protected spots and admittedly had a couple blow over. Luckily they were the least expensive & you can put the broken part so it's not seen or pop in a succulent where it is broken.
