My experience with the jades I have, grown in containers, they really do not need that much deep container, but drainage is really important. I have repotted some, it does not fall apart, but I do have to put some heavy rocks at the base, and stake the plant for awhile as it anchors itself eventually.

Even if I have some in a bit bigger container, the soil is only half level, so the jade plant grows well.
