I'm afraid you are right , Lucy. When I was a child, *almost* everyone had either a veggie garden, or a flower garden.....and most had both ! You just don't see that now. There are some "younger folks", of course, who "garden".....and like you say, most of those *grew up with it*. Our little town, and several of the surrounding ones, used to have "The Ladies Gardening Club", or, in some cases "The MENS Gardening Club", now, except for the County Master Gardeners Program, I know of none that survive ! The "Floral" building at the County Fairgrounds used to be filled ,to overflowing, 30 years ago, and last year, the Floral, the "cooking", and the "Knitting / sewing" all fit in one building. I suppose the problem really lies with us..
...if we don't encourage the younger folks to "grow"....nobody else will ! I'll admit, we do a good job of 'enabling", here on the various forums....but really, we are "preaching to the choir", as only those who have SOME desire ever follow the threads ! The "Youth Section" of the AIS, the folks who help start "Community Gardens", and involve the *young 'uns*, and the gardener who tries to involve the kids in the neighborhood in the hobby, really have their work cut out for them !
