I was going to say I can't say for sure, as it looks like a few things. But upon very close examination, I see that some of the leaves are whorled (three to a joint). This is not unusual for Hydrangea paniculata, and unheard of for anything else I can think of that might fit the pics for our climate. In addition, it's pretty clear that heavy pruning through the years has occurred that would be typical of the plant.
So good job, Danita. I 'd say it is Hydrangea paniculata, too.
