A few weeks ago, Mike sent me some historical information about Western lilies native to his Humbolt County in northern California where Arcata is located. There are nine ( 9 ) distinct native types known to grow there. There are quite a few of certain ones while some are seen only rarely. I find Mike's work highly interesting in this area. I think if I lived in the county, I'd be finding and putting a GPS locator/marker to every patch that I could locate. Michael Homick told me several years ago, that he and Paul Machado would make week end trips up to Humbolt County on pollen collection hunts and he'd go on to explain about what they found and where they found something, etc. I was impressed then, in what they were doing. Lisa, if you're reading this, you might consider contacting them about obtaining some frozen pollen as well.

Sometime in the future, I'd like to post the article that Mike sent me for all to read. I've got to convert it to an uploadable and readable form. I don't think we can upload pdf here.
