Thanks for the photo Karen. Yup, it definitely is some type of sempervivum, so mommy plant will bloom and slowly fade away later. I see you have new ones already at the base, so it will continue on. Typically it takes around 3 or 4 years for the plant to start blooming or sometimes if location is too hot and dry, it also triggers bolting. They are alpine succulents that love cooler but not soggy conditions. A few can tolerate the heat. I will just enjoy the bloom show as it goes. And as I have mentioned earlier, you can try and harvest the seeds when bloom dies.
