What's the best way to work with clippings? Do you put them right in the ground or let them dry out for a few days first? I've not had good luck with cuttings I buy at the shows...I stick em in the ground or pots and they muck up and die on me!
Patty I just realized I have not responded to your question yet. Sorry, I am getting old and has selective comprehension.
I just let the cuttings dry out or callous for a few days. Then I plant them using the black pot (or lately I had been using clay pots) using a 50/50 regular potting soil and perlite. I water it once until the leaves starts to open up or if the soil gets really dry and the cuttings look dehydrated, I would mist the dirt and the soil, usually early morning. The pots are then placed on top of a concrete pad because bottom heat is important. I also tried putting a whole egg in the pot to supposedly help with the rooting process so not really sure it is helping. Then once the plummie has 3 sets of leaves, I just resume regular watering.
By the way, I used to use super thrive too (I think they helped but others said there is no scientific evidence for it) but not lately because it is getting too expensive.
