Dear Jamie, I do not know if they do chocolate buttons in the US. Well we cal them that anyway, they are small bits of chocolate shaped like a button. Although any chocolate would do, for what we us it for. A Gamekeeper taught me this as rodent go mad about chocolate and the myth about cheese is rubbish! Mice prefer cereal based things and cakes, plus cardboard paper for nesting!
This has now been proven by many Universities including mine!
So what you do is to get a small bit of chocolate, then melt it onto the spike on the mouse trap, as it cools the smell of the coca butter drives them mad and to get it of they will risk everything, until it snaps shit, then it is too late as they go to where they belong.
If you release live trapped mice, they just come back or die a painful death! They work on a Hierarchical system, remove a top one and take it away another will take its place very quickly.
Then it is an "Outsider" so usual gets wasted by something!
There breeding rate is phenomenal, so the more dead ones the better!
They are also disease carriers and will go through cables and cause untold damage!
Regards.
Neil.
Phoenix agrees!
