I have a few empty rows in my raised beds and am trying to figure the best use. I have squash in a lot of places, two replantings of carrots and beans. I am not sure if it is too late to try for another bunch of brocs.

For sure this fall I am dousing all three beds with neem oil and soap. The aphids are awful and I know they set eggs in the fall to mature in the spring. I have dumped all the old soil from pots and will buy all new next year. I may even bleach the pots before planting. Course I am also going to plant seeds directly in the raised beds as soon as they are workable.

Damien says we keep getting notices from Chugach Electric that our electric bill is higher by orders of magnitude than anyone else in our subdivision. Thanks to the pond pumps, deicers, and grow lights in the spring. What's a body to do. He is looking into installing some solar panels on the front and back of the house about the size of shutters on each side of the windows. May look spooky but if it cuts down on the bill, I'm for it. I am blessed that as cost conscious as he is the doesn't grouse at me for my expensive hobbies.
