My lasting memory of Hyde Park a number of years back is of Speakers Corner, something that I wanted to see after being a constant visitor to the Domain in Sydney. In Sydney it was the days of John Webster who had also made his mark on Speakers Corner in Hyde Park. Don't know whether any of that still exists these days (to the same extent) in either place but for me as a 'young impressionable' it was great entertainment and thought provoking.
