Due to the rain and the odd ten minutes of sun thew weeds have gone mad! After the very dry summer we have had that is to be expected. However the unkempt Garden next door has spread the evil Bindweed again everywhere, especially into my evergreen clematis. Bindweed or Convolvulus major seems to choke everything it gets into and if it touches the ground roots everywhere!
So as we have two afternoons of sun over the weekend and a few hours yesterday I have been pulling this rampant pest out! It means I will have to wait till the Clematis has flowered in the spring and then cut the whole lot down to regrow, which is such a shame. But this bindweed must be dealt with as it has also come under the fence and got into Sarah's border, which she was not to happy about!
Once I had got rid of it from there, I had a lot of herbaceous plants in my nursery containers, so they were planted into the clean border. There were three different colours of Red Hot Pokers, Canterbury Bells, Delphiniums, Coneflowers etc. so they have all gone in as I need the nursery containers.
I put some pansy seeds in and they germinated so I let them grow on a bit, but due to the rain and the overcast weather they have not done much in the shaded Greenhouse, so I have put them all in the nursery container. I am growing to Red & Gold pansies I grew last year as everyone loved them, Sarah wanted some purple and orange ones and mother wants blue and yellow ones and some of the other colours mixed. I don't think that will work, but two women against me I don't stand a chance!
They claim it is going to snow by the end of the month, that is all we need. Well I have a lot of green tomatos, so it is green tomato chutney making time.
Regards.
Neil.
