We have a Vegetable and Fruit Forum; I started a Fig thread over there hoping to keep the information about figs in one place for easier reference:

Most Fig tree varieties need to be located in a sheltered area with good southern exposure if you are pushing the zone; in your area you should plan on covering the plant during the cold months.
