But they didn't, they grow on long knobby runners, these go every which way under the soil.
I've had them escape thru drainage holes in the pot...
After one season, these runners rot away, leaving nothing behind except the new bulb formed at the tip.
Judging but the roundness of those tubers, those were runner from several seasons ago.
