Sabrina - I would definitely try adding it to water. I had to do that with about 30+ scapes loaded with pods because I had a rat eating the pods in my garden. Almost ALL of my pods ripened and seem to have produced viable seeds after sitting in a vase of water to ripen. The scapes do get rather nasty looking and smelling, even with frequent water change, but well worth it to be able to collect all those precious seeds.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.
