I adore
Pyracantha coccinea (Firethorn), not only for its white blooms and fire red berries, but its viscous spikes. As a Hedge it is great against intruders who think twice after getting tangled in it, but also to inconsiderate Dog owners that allow their Animals to mess on the pavements! I have seen many a Dog who wished he had not cocked his leg against one of these.
Here is one in flower yesterday! Plus the birds adore the berries in a bad winter.
