Well, I am no hybridizer so this may not make any sense. But I think that just because the parents show rust that does not mean the children will show rust. If he uses two rusty parents and gets three thousand seedlings, then picks the ones that don't show rust and they have other outstanding qualities, I can see that. Most buying are not going to be hybridizers so the rust would not be a factor for them. I think the culling process could be the answer.
Does that sound right?
