Your old daylily looks a lot like one I just posted in Plant ID about two weeks ago. Some very helpful links were posted that helped me narrow down what it might be. You may want to track down that thread (I'd post the link, but I'm on my phone and its harder to search for it). I determined that mine might be a short-because-of-shade "Autumn Red", "Challenger", or even "Gay Troubador". I've given mine the garden name of "Red Challenge" because it's such a fitting description.
