I subscribe to a free site (Southern Exposure Seed Exchange) which provides information to gardeners; usually short entertaining and informational videos. One message was very interesting.

TheBigBugHunt.com (Edited to add: I would have named it 'TheBigPestHunt.com' but I am not Queen of the world.)

They are asking gardeners/farmers everywhere in the world to simply report which pest they see, the date, the plant and the location. They hope to be able to analyse the data to create a system that could send email warnings so gardeners can know which pest is moving into the area so the gardeners/farmers can take the necessary precautions. The more gardeners/farmers who participate, the more accurate and timely the alerts will be.
