I dug up a few pretty big ones of these (about 3-5 ft. tall) from my Aunt's yard & put them in my yard in OH, back in 1998. They were really cool, blooming white flowers with a red center, and would usually start doing it within a day or 2 of July 4th. I never trimmed them, one got pretty tall.

These pics are about a year after I put them in.

(All of the pots are off of the ground because I had tons of rabbits there, who would eat anything in a pot.)

My grandfather had really old Rose of Sharon he never trimmed, they got to at least 25 feet tall it was amazing with all those blooms. Yes, that is the typical leaf style.
