Humidity IS worse this year and heat index is much higher. I work in early morning and also late afternoon depending on severity of mosquitoes.
(Mainly though in late afternoons due to work.)
Maurice - What you wrote is exactly what I have noticed in my own garden concerning the development of prolifs. I didn't see as many this year as I typically do. Not sure why. And the ones that I did see prolifs on were mainly spider and UF forms. When I amended my seedling bed and moved plants around, I lost one of my best growing seedlings and prolif makers. I was shocked that it happened because other seedlings were not nearly as big or had such nicely developed roots. Yet it died. Lesson learned well by me! Do not move plants in the heat of summer ... ever!
I like the idea of a prolif trade, too! Smaller plants to share and ship with no digging involved, though the roots would have to be pretty well developed on them to survive transporting. Sounds like a great idea! Maybe next season we can start a thread for those who would like to do an exchange?
Getting older is not for the meek and mild. Gardening is for the tough ... so it is definitely getting harder to maintain my garden areas as I get older. Someone needs to develop an age-reversal pill !!!
