Let's see if I can get a few pics to load up here...
Here's pappy, my big konjac, the more I look around, the more I think pappy may not be a typical konjac, all the others I see have much more dark on the petiole than mine, but he's certainly not a recognized cultivar such as knightstick or Leo's song... I'm beginning to wonder if it may be a clone that gets larger than normal konjac, I understand that somewhere around 5-10 pounds, the main tuber will split into 2 smaller tubers instead of simply growing larger. Pappy was 8 pounds before blooming, about 6 after, he bloomed late this year, and took a long rest, I was afraid he wouldn't come up this year, low and behold, he shot up like never before! And even though his tuber was about this same size last year, the lead and petiole are bigger, and more robust than ever before!
I think this is the 4th(maybe 5th) year that he's bloomed without a break, it's my understanding that konjac a usually bloom every other year, so I'm just not real sure what his deal is! I certianly have no shortage of these genes! I think I have over 100 plants that all came from pappys pups, several are getting up to size!
I can't seem to get any pics of my names clones that actually showcase their beauty and uniqueness... I just need a real camera and not this junky iPhone camera I think...
I'm rather excited about them though! Every single one of them has spit 2 petioles this year!
That's got to be a good sign that they are growing well!
I absolutely cannot wait to have massive plants of the 3 of them(knightstick, Leo's song and beige stem) my unusual clone of peonifolious has even decided to spike up another pet!
Average sized amorphs are fine and all, but once they get over your head, it's an entirely different statement they make!
The other pics are if my venosums, showing the leaf first, then the petiole, I'm quite sure that the ones with few spots are a hybrid of the normal form and Indian giant... I guess I need to acquire a true Indian giant too, to round out the collection!
