@exfed The ants in your AC unit sounds like Rasberry (named after the exterminator who first discovered them in Houston area) or crazy ants. You need to be extra vigilant because they will come back. They are a terrible, expensive pest. I see you're in Tennessee. That means they are either migrating or someone brought theym into the neighborhood in a move from the south.
