I have a huge corn plant that has pollen but there is no silk showing on the only ear. I looked inside and see no silk? I heard the term "silk balling" where instead of emerging it gets stuck and grows down, cold nights could cause it. The ear feels thin so I don't think pollen is reaching inside.

Can I strip part of the husk to expose the silk or will that kill the corn kernels?
