In the Winter 2008 Daylily Journal Marianne Joordens had pictures of many different pods including Hemerocallis citrina (which has reddish fan bases). The pod (and according to the article the flower bud) has dark purple coloration. Page 53 photo 19.

There are a couple of speckled pods pictured as well, but nothing as red as DogsNDaylilies' picture. It's too bad there's only one pod, it would be interesting to see if it is common to all the pods on that plant or just a one-off.
