There are a couple of speckled pods pictured as well, but nothing as red as DogsNDaylilies' picture. It's too bad there's only one pod, it would be interesting to see if it is common to all the pods on that plant or just a one-off.

With luck, there will be more! Thumbs up I pollinated two blossoms yesterday and there are a few blossoms left (The Royal Frosting is showing bud-building characteristics, which is interesting to me since it's not listed as a bud builder.)

I've had the reddish-purple speckles on pods before (note the pictures in the first couple of posts in this thread), but this is just REALLY red...the other pods started out pretty green and then added in the red color as they got bigger, from what I recall. This doesn't have the pointalism-esque pattern, either, just a smooth reddish color. So strange. I am surprised, though, that no one has piped up and said they have seen this type of thing before. I would've thought someone would say "hey, that's what happens when you have such-and-so disease" or "yeah, some fertilizers used in nurseries cause extra pigmentation in the plant sometimes"....or something else that tells me what craziness is going on with this little bud, hehe Rolling my eyes.
