I used to have two large 'Snow Queen' Hibiscus shrubs that I planted in the yard at a house we owned here in town for 40 years. I purchased those Hibiscus in quart size pots and once in the ground they grew very quickly, as many Hibiscus do here in hot, humid Florida! I planted one in the front yard by the street and the other, I made the mistake of planting right outside the screened pool enclosure. That one we had to prune almost weekly during the summer months because it grew so fast and would have branches smooshed up against the screen. One year when we were traveling extensively it grew above the top of the screen roof! That particular shrub was destroyed during the summer of 2004 when we had three hurricanes come through our area within a six week period. One of the storms took down a large Schefflera tree as well as some other large trees in the backyard and one of them crushed the Hibiscus so we dug it up but didn't save it. At one point, the shrub in the front yard began to revert from the pretty variegated foliage to solid green. I used to see the 'Snow Queen' for sale all over town back in the 1970's but I haven't seen them in garden centers around my area in quite awhile.
