Our temps have been in the nineties too with horrible humidity, so I feel your pain. I did refrain from ordering any DL for fall, but only because I am working to get the greenhouse and bed finished
And....I am also working on a daylily unit for my students at school. They are seventh grade gifted and talented. I was fortunate enough to get seeds from Cindy (Hemlady) and the idea from Lisa (Lilydaydreamer). The students are going to experiment to find the best way to germinate the seeds, then we will grow them out. While they are growing out, students will be researching the growth and flowering habits of the parents, then make predictions about what their daylily could possibly look like, as well as general plant genetics.
My goal is to have them be able to take a daylily home with them that they can choose to register if they like. I also want to get some guest speakers ( anyone interested?) to come in to speak with them about hybridizing. Last, I would love to plan an end of the year field trip to a daylily garden where they can see the beauty in person. That is going to be tricky since the garden needs to be in bloom, and my local ones will not quite be ready. I'm wondering if South Georgia or upper Florida would be a good choice...lots of planning to do! Chaperones, anyone??
I'll be dreaming about daylilies, but my beds will have to wait until spring to see some new arrivals. Wait...they're already full! I'm sure there's a spot somewhere in the yard where the sods not looking too great and could be enhanced by daylilies
Did I read that right...you will have some for sale this spring???
